Show and Tell: Artists Talks, Freddie Robins
18. Oct - 18. Oct 11 / ended Core GalleryFree for DIY Members, £5 for non-members.
6.30-8.30pm
Freddie Robins (b. 1965) is an artist who challenges our perception of knitting as craft. Her work is internationally renowned, her practice crossing the boundaries of art, design and craft. She was born in Hertfordshire and lives and works in Essex and London. She studied textiles at Middlesex Polytechnic (1984-87) and Royal College of Art (1987-89) where she is now a Senior Tutor.
Through artists telling their stories, and acting as role models, Show & Tell aims to create a realistic idea of what it is to be a professional artist today. Artists will be encouraged to talk about their own practice - in the widest sense - from their choice of subject matter, themes, and inspirations to getting shown, and their daily routine and studio practice. Concentrating on practical ways to sustain a practice, through good times and bad, success and disappointment, we ask experienced mid-career artists: how did you get where you are today and how do you survive as an artist?
